Kanker Palace

Know Your Host

Kanker Palace is a Colonial style architecture heritage building built in 19th century and rebuilt in 1937. Earlier time it is known as Radhanivas Bagicha. It was built for the British agents to stay, who was the young prince’s guardian at the time. It is the 4th palace of Kanker Royal Family. Other palaces are donated for school, temple and hospital. Now it is the residence of royal family of Kanker. And the host family renovate the palace as heritage homestay to showcase their culture to others.

Know Your Homestay

The palace is surrounded by green trees. The royal family live in one of the half of the palace and the other are designed for guests. The palace has 5 Rooms in the Right Wing of the Palace, 2 in the Annex and 4 in the Cottages with the attached bathroom. The rooms are decorated with traditional furniture, animal skins and hunting trophies, including ‘Henry’ a complete tiger who watches over guests in the sitting room.

At the time of staying at the palace visit to tribal villages to watch and participate in their festivals. And have a walk around the villages finding out about (and photographing) their way of life: we visited a village nursery and a school for the older children and had lunch in the village served in bowls made from banana leaf. The journey to the rock paintings gave you the opportunity to observe rural life - with herders taking their cattle to pastures (with buffalo detouring to swim in the local lake), people working in fields and women working in their homes. Guests can also visit Chitrakoot Water Fall, Kondagaon Dhokra Village.
