Guwahati - Kaziranga – Shillong - Cherrapunjee - Guwahati
Day 01: Guwahati:
Arrival at Delhi airport then connecting flight to Guwahati. After a brief welcome ceremony at Guwahati airport, drive to city and check into your hotel room. Guwahati is the gateway to the north-Eastern states of India and is a fast growing premier city. The Chinese traveler, Hieun Tsang, who visited Guwahati in the 7th century, showered lavish praise on the city. Situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, and encircled by low green hills, Guwahati abounds temples, picnic spots, and museums. Overnight stay at Guwahati.
Day 02: Guwahati - Kaziranga National Park:
After breakfast visit Kamakhya Temple, a Major Hindu Pilgrimage site. During the festival of Ambubashi more than a million devotees throng this holy place. Return to hotel after paying homage to the mother goddess Kamakhya and drive on to famous Kaziranga National park. Spreading over an area of 430 sq. km., the park is the natural habitat of the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It also houses elephant, Indian bison, swamp deer, leopard cat, jungle cat, hog badger, langur, hoolock gibbon, jackal, goose, hornbills, ibis, cormorants, egret, heron fishing eagles and a number of migratory birds that can be sighted in winter. It is recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO. One of the most visited wildlife reserves of India, Kaziranga figures quite often on the itinerary of discerning tourists from around the world. Check into a resort on arrival. Stay overnight at Kaziranga. (220 kms /5 hrs drive)
Day 03: Kaziranga National Park:
Early morning explore central Range of Kaziranga National Park on Elephant Safari. On return explore the eastern range on a jeep safari. Return for lunch and proceed to Western Range of Kaziranga National Park on jeep. Stay overnight at Kaziranga.
Day 04: Kaziranga - Shillong:
After an early morning breakfast drive to Shillong. Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is a hill town in the north eastern part of India. It is situated at an altitude of 1496 meters above sea level. It is popularly known as “Scotland of the East”. One of the seven sisters of the north east of India, Meghalaya covers an area of 300 kilometers (approx) in length and about 100 kilometers (approx) in breadth. It is surrounded by Assam on the north and east and by Bangladesh on the south and west. Abundant rainfall, sun-shine, virgin forests, high plateaus, tumbling waterfalls, crystal clear rivers, meandering streamlets ornament Meghalaya with natural beauty. But the real jewels of Meghalaya are the sturdy, intelligent and hospitable people. Check in at your hotel. In the evening visit the local market. Stay overnight at your hotel in Shillong. (280 kms/6 hrs drive)
Day 05: Shillong: Cherrapunjee:
After breakfast drive to Cherrapunjee. ‘Cherrapunjee’, may well be regarded as one of the most popular tourist spots in North East of India. It lies to the south of the capital Shillong. It was the rainiest place in world not so long ago. But now this title is hold by a small village nearby called Mawsynram. The beautiful waterfall-Noh-ka-likai is at Cherrapunjee you can also explore some of the caves in and around Cherrapunjee. Return to Shillong, en-route visit Elephanta falls and Shillong peak for some breathtaking views. Stay overnight at your hotel in Shillong. (60 kms/1 ½ hr)
Day 06: Shillong - Guwahati:
Morning sightseeing at Shillong, visit Ward Lake and Hydari Park. Admire the beauty of Shillong, also called Scotland of the East. It was the capital of undivided Assam and present Northeast and home to the Khasi highland tribes. After lunch drive back to Guwahati. Stay overnight at your hotel in Guwahati. (100 kms/3 hrs drive)
Day 07: Guwahati - Airport Transfer:
Morning transfer to Guwahati Airport then connecting flight to Delhi for your onwards journey. (Tour Ends)
